OVS - Overseas Claims
Students from overseas on a temporary student visa are not usually eligible for a Medicare card. To comply with visa requirements, they may have to purchase Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) to meet the costs of medical and hospital care while in Australia. A few funds will accept electronic OVS (Overseas) claims eg AHM, Allianz Global Assistance (Peoplecare Health), BUPA Australia and Medibank Private.
Overseas Visitors Health Cover (OVHC) is a similar form of health insurance which is designed for visitors to Australia who do not have access to Australia's public Medicare system for medical or hospital expenses. OVHC insures against potential expenses visitors may incur if they require medical or hospital treatment.
Cutting Edge supports electronic claiming for these types of services, but only where the fund accepts OVS. If not, the Overseas Claim option will not appear on the Claim Type dropdown list. In this case the patient will need a printed invoice to claim from their fund. We recommend that you take payment up front and indicate on the invoice that it has been paid in full.
RHCA - Reciprocal health care agreements
Students and others from the United Kingdom, Sweden, the Netherlands, Belgium, Slovenia, Italy or New Zealand, can apply for a Medicare card under Reciprocal Health Care Agreements (RHCA). If you enter and validate RHCA Medicare card details in Cutting Edge, you will get a message on the History tab that says the patient is covered under RHCA, and you can submit claims for Medicare benefits.
