Error 9783 - The claimant will need to update their bank details
From 1 October 2025 when submitting a fully paid Medicare Patient Claim, the claimant’s Medicare registration will be checked to see if a valid bank account has been registered with Medicare. An error 9783 will be displayed if the claimant has not registered valid bank account details with Medicare.
In this situation you can still submit a claim (it is a warning, not an error) however it's important to advise the patient/claimant to register bank account details with Medicare so they can get paid, as Medicare no longer issues cheques. It's not possible to register claimant bank details from CE, only the claimant can do this.
The full error message displayed on the screen and on the History tab is:
9783 - The claimant will need to update their bank details registered with Medicare. This can be done through their Medicare online account, by calling Medicare or visiting a Service Centre.
